The City in Time
The exhibition tells the story of Prague in the Romantic era through the fate of Antonín Langweil – a romantic hero par excellence. It follows the spirit of the time in which the librarian lived and develops his story using a contemporary visual language.
The exhibition works with two principal formats: wall panels form
an infographic narrative layer, while immersive multimedia projections are designed to captivate the viewer and spark curiosity and a desire to explore what Prague
was truly like at the time.
In the first hall, we encounter the Vltava as a wild, untamed force. The river and Prague’s floods are the central exhibit. In the second room, a series of everyday scenes from the lives of former inhabitants awaits, captured in the delicate light of digital painting. In the third hall, we witness Antonín Langweil’s epiphany as he gazes upon a Prague of 120,000 souls, as well as his final moments at his worktable.
In the fourth room, we explore twelve Prague islands in an endless cycle of shifting dawn and dusk. The fifth and final hall forms the monumental climax of the entire exhibition. In a multimedia crescendo, we witness the extraordinary power of transformation that the post-Langweil era brought to Prague.
Across all its multimedia elements, the exhibition explores the hidden corners of the metropolis at the dawn of the 19th century. It offers an intimate glimpse into the turbulent life of the creator of a unique city model. It develops a dialogue between the fragility of everyday life and the weight of grand history; between a period of stagnation and years of dramatic change; between darkness and light.
